Instant messaging (IM) allows workplace writers to communicate in "real time". It is a form of synchronous communication-- communication with the sender and receiver transmitting and receiving in the same moment.
I find that instant messaging is extremely convenient, easy to use, and of course fast. Although I can not say I have any experience using an instant messaging program while in a place of work, I can say that I understand how convenient of a tool it is just through experiencing it in my personal use. Now a days, even most phones are connected to the Internet and have access to instant messaging programs. So, not that it wasn't already, but now it's even more convenient. It is a great way to share files with fellow colleagues, suppliers, and partners. Also, the service can be a lifesaver when trying to fix a technical program on a computer. The conversation and given directions can be accessed right there on the screen. And according to an article on ScienceDaily, instant messaging proves useful in reducing workplace interruptions. (#1) It talks about most colleagues finding it easier and less disruptive to IM versus picking up the phone or having a face-to-face chat. Plus, best of all, most of the providers are free of charge.
Overall, I think instant messaging is a popular growing trend in the workplace world. With technology coming out with the next most convenient device/program we can count on business communication only getting better from here on out.

Jenna, you made some very good points in this post. I agree Instant Messaging plays a big rold in today's business world. The only thing you could have done to improve it was to include a youtube video. You are supposed to include one in every post. Other than that, this post was well written and organized. It also had a pretty good voice.
ReplyDeleteI love your choice of graphic here. It was very appropriate and very noticeable and instantly drew me in to your post. I use instant messaging at work everyday and it saves a ton on our phone bill! I would have touched upon some IM etiquette because I know of instances when inappropriate IM’s were being sent or the wrong person received the IM. I enjoyed reading your post. It was very informative and well done!
ReplyDeleteAwesome graphic at the beginning! Its a real attention grabber. I think its pretty amazing that instant messaging has spread so much that it is now commonplace in the business world. The post had good information and I like how you included some info from articles like the one from Science Daily. Overall Great Job!
ReplyDeleteJenna great post! I loved the graphics, I think you could've gone a little more in depth with some of the information but you did keep it very concise which is a plus!
ReplyDeleteExcellent post! The graphic was definitely an attention grabber and reminds me of the AIM emoticons. The paragraph structure of your post could have been edited a little bit better. Your article was concise and easy to understand!
